Swim lessons are taught at McGaugh Elementary School located at 1698 Bolsa Avenue, Seal Beach 90740. Lessons take place Monday-Friday during the summer months and are 25 minutes in duration. The cost is $75 for residents and $100 for non-residents.

Parents are respectfully requested to observe swim lessons in the spectator area provided outside the pool deck. Only children currently enrolled in a lesson are permitted on the deck. The pool manager reserves the right to transfer any participant to a class that is more appropriate for the swimmer’s skill level.

Parent & Me

This class is designed to promote comfort, safety, and enjoyment in the water. Grownups will be instructed how to work with their children to facilitate safety in the water. One adult (18+) per child required.

Introduction to Water

Designed to introduce swimming and water safety skills to children of preschool ages.

Beginner Levels 1, 2, 3

Students will be introduced to the primary skills of body position, proper kicking, basic skills of freestyle/crawl, and an introduction to backstroke. Progressive advancement through levels is taught in the shallow, short end of the pool. Class maximum of four (4) participants.

Level 4 – Stroke Improvement

Breaststroke is introduced and backstroke is refined. Students will be required to swim 25 yards using rhythmic breathing. Students must be proficient in freestyle, backstroke, and able to swim unassisted the length of the pool. Class maximum of six (6) participants.

Level 5 – Skill Improvement

Freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke will all be refined. Emphasis will be on proper stroke techniques and building endurance. Class maximum of six (6) participants.

Level 6 – Skill Proficiency

Butterfly stroke is introduced. This class will stress proper stroke efficiency and endurance. Class maximum of six (6) participants.

Level 7 – Advanced Skill Proficiency

Refinement of all four strokes is emphasized. Swimming with interval training is introduced to build endurance. Class maximum of six (6) participants.
