PRESS RELEASE - SUSPECT DRIVING ATV ON PCH ARRESTED AFTER BRIEF PURSUIT

SEAL BEACH, CA — A man driving an off-road all-terrain vehicle on Pacific Coast
Highway was arrested after a brief pursuit.

On Monday, May 31, 2021 at about 5:06 p.m., the Seal Beach Police Department
received a request from the Huntington Beach Police Department to assist with a
reckless driver who was operating an all-terrain vehicle on Pacific Coast Highway.
Huntington Beach Police officers attempted to stop the vehicle and were involved in a
collision which resulted in the officers sustaining moderate injuries. As the driver
continued on Pacific Coast Highway, he was being followed by the Huntington Beach
Police Department helicopter as it entered into Seal Beach.

Seal Beach Police officers attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver failed to yield and
led officers on a brief pursuit. Due to the reckless nature of the suspect’s driving, the
pursuit was terminated by Seal Beach officers. However, the helicopter continued
following the ATV as it drove through several cities in Los Angeles Counties.

The suspect’s vehicle became disabled in the area of El Segundo Boulevard and Main
Street in the city of Los Angeles. The suspect surrendered and was taken into custody
by Seal Beach officers with the assistance of Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies.

The suspect was identified as 18-year old Tyreese Gatlin of Los Angeles, CA. Gatlin
was arrested for reckless driving and felony evading. He was later booked at the
    Orange County Jail.

This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact
Detective Sergeant Chris Hendrix at (562) 799-4100 ext. 1112 or
    chendrix@sealbeachca.gov.
