March 22nd through March 26th is National Tsunami Preparedness
Week. The City of Seal Beach in cooperation with the State of California, Office of
Emergency Services (Cal-OES) and the Orange County Emergency Management
Division will be taking an active role in promoting public education and awareness about
tsunami preparedness.

The Seal Beach Police Department is investigating a hate crime
in which a threatening letter was mailed to an Asian American family.

April is recognized as Autism Awareness Month. To show support
to the autism community, Seal Beach Police Officers and professional staff will be
wearing a special Autism Awareness patch on their uniforms during the month of April.
Patrol cars will also be adorned with a magnetic decal. The patches are available for
sale to the public for $10 each. Proceeds from the sale of the patches will be donated
to an organization within the autism community.

Motivation and support comes in many forms, including a cold
nose and a warm heart. The Seal Beach Police Department welcomed its newest staff
member, Canine Companions for Independence Facility Dog Yosa. Police Facility Dog
Yosa will assist her handler, Lieutenant Nick Nicholas, during his work with victims,
witnesses, and community members exposed to traumatic events.

April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, and the Seal Beach
Police Department encourages drivers to give the phone a break and focus on the road.
Throughout the month of April the Seal Beach Police Department will have additional
officers on patrol specifically looking for drivers who violate the state’s hands-free cell
phone law.
