You may park in any unpainted curb side that is not posted with a no stopping or no parking sign. All streets in the Old Town/Downtown area near the beach are one-hour parking so be aware of the signs. No commercial vehicle, truck, trailer or truck-trailer combination that exceeds a width of 80 inches on any street for a period longer than 2 hours. No oversized vehicle (vehicle that exceeds 20 feet in length) upon any street between 2:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. Meter parking is available in Old Town along Main Street and they accept nickels, dimes and quarters. There are three beach parking lots (1st St., 8th St. and 10th St.).

Disabled placards/license plates – FREE
There are three beach parking lots (1st St., 8th St. and 10th St.). Each beach lot has two pay stations. You must pay in ADVANCE to park. The machines will issue a receipt that must be visibly displayed on the dashboard of your vehicle with the current expiration date and time showing. If the receipt’s expiration time is not visible to Parking Enforcement, YOU WILL BE CITED. Every vehicle must be parked in a single marked stall. If you park in a way that your vehicle is over the white line and another vehicle cannot park in the parking stall next to you, YOU WILL BE CITED.
Where May I Not Park?
Street Sweeping Zones: Parking in street sweeping zones is enforced throughout the City Monday through Thursday with some City of Seal Beach holidays excepted. Areas are posted with time zones from 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM. The City sweeps either side of a street in a given area on two different days. Posted signs indicate the day each side of the street is swept. Check posted signs for specific days.
Fire Lanes: Only City emergency vehicles may park
Fire Hydrants: The California Vehicle Code says no vehicle within 15 feet and the curb only has to be painted red if anything other than 15 feet is enforced.
Painted Curbs: Please observe the following parking regulations regarding painted curbs:
- Red – No stopping, standing or parking at any time.
- Blue – Handicapped parking only (must display disabled license plate or a valid placard).
- Yellow – May park long enough to load or unload freight or passengers.
- White – Two-minute passenger loading and unloading only.
- Green – May park for a limited time only. Time is usually 20 or 24 minutes.
Crosswalks: No parking in marked crosswalks
Driveways: Do not park so as to block a public or private driveway.
Parkways and sidewalks: do not park on any portion of the sidewalk or parkway.
Intersection: Do not stop or park or leave your vehicle within an intersection.
Private Property: Do not park on private property posted “no parking”.
Parking Enforcement and Holidays
The City of Seal Beach enforces parking everyday with the exception of the following Holidays; Thanksgiving, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
What Happens If My Vehicle Is Towed?
If your vehicle has been towed by the City of Seal Beach for a violation or is being held for delinquent parking citations you will need to speak to someone at the Seal Beach Police Department. Our normal business hours are 9 AM – 5 PM Monday through Friday, except holidays at (562) 799-4100 ext 1144. After hours call our Dispatch center at (562) 594-7232. You should have you vehicle license number, make and model of your vehicle ready. Please be aware that if your vehicle was towed for delinquent citations that you must pay all parking citations. If your vehicle was towed for expired registration, you must go to the DMV first before we will release your vehicle. Seal Beach Police Department charges an $80 fee in addition to any other fees that you have to release all vehicles.
There are numerous permits in the City of Seal Beach. Our most common ones that may be purchased at City Hall located at 211 8th Street are:
Residential: Allows residents to park in one hour zones for more than one hour but less than 72 hours with the exception of the 800 and 900 blocks on Ocean Blvd and Central either side of Main Street (two hours max).
Merchant: Allows merchants to park in the 8th St. Municipal lot next to the fire station and in the beach lots only.
Annual Beach permits: Allows for a vehicle to park in any beach lot during normal hours for a full year from the time that the permit is purchased.
How Do I Pay A Parking Citation?
You may pay a parking citation in the following ways:
- With cash or checks at Seal Beach Police Department.
- With credit cards online at pticket.com.
- By mail using the accompanying envelope.
- By phone by calling 1-800-553-4412.
