To ALL prospective Junior Lifeguard Parents:
It's that time of year. For the 25th year in a row the Seal Beach Lifeguard Department is offering the Junior Lifeguard program. The Junior Lifeguard Program is a fun – but physically demanding – hands on program that provides the participants with knowledge and respect for the ocean and it’s surrounding environment. It is designed to emphasize the importance of safety, respect, and camaraderie while covering the following topics: Ocean Proofing, Physical Development, Lifeguard Skills, First Aid, and Competition.
The program typically begins the last week of June and ends the second week in August, making the program 7 weeks long. Those people that participated last year will be offered priority registration. Residents will also receive a discount off of the tuition. We are looking forward to another exciting year, and hope you find that we offer the best program on the California coast.
Program Schedule:
Session Dates: June 25 to August 10
Daily sessions are Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 12:00pm.

Registration (Sign-Up) Date:
Participants that were in the program last year will receive a registration packet in the mail. Open registration for new participants will be held Saturday June 16 at 9:00 AM at Seal Beach Lifeguard Headquarters (northeast corner of Eight Street Beach Parking Lot). Open registration is on a first come first served basis. ALL participants must pass a swim test prior to registration. 225 spaces will be available in this year’s program.
Junior Lifeguard Age Groups:
- "A" Group (14-17 years of age)
- "B" Group (12-13 years of age)
- "C" Group (9-11 years of age)
Swim Test:
ALL participants must pass a 100 yard swim test in order to register.
Swim test dates for RETURNING participants:
Saturdays – May 5 & 12 7am – 10am
Swim test dates for NEW participants:
- Tuesday May 29 5pm – 7pm
- Thursday May 31 5pm – 7pm
- Saturday June 2 7am – 10am
All swim tests will be held at McGaugh Elementary School – 1698 Bolsa Ave. (corner of Bolsa Ave. and Seal Beach Blvd.)
The 100 yard swim must be completed within:
- 1:55 for “C” group
- 1:40 for “B” group
- 1:35 for “A” group
